I love sunsets. I love the ocean. Let me tell you how much I love sunsets and oceans together, in the same photo, as long as its not corny or you might buy it in one of those weird trinket stores in crappy malls…I love them a lot. So when I recently went on vacation to the beach I was pretty pumped, not because I like the beach, in fact I don’t really like the beach but that’s another blog post. Anyway, we were at the beach for 5 days, plenty enough time to get some good sunset shots, right? WRONG! It rained the whole time. So as the dedicated photographer what do I do, you are probably thinking inquisitively? I shoot in the rain of course!!! So every afternoon to evening I go out shooting and let me tell you I got some of the best images I’ve gotten in the past 6 months on this trip. Because there wasn’t a lot of color in the scene I shot the images with the intention of turning them to black and white. So instead of shooting for the great colors and energy that flows from an ocean shot I focused on the mood of the photo I was trying to create, using long exposures coupled with the tide coming in to create the image I had in my mind. And like I said, I think it turned out pretty fantastic. So when you go out shooting a sunrise and sunset and there is no color you just have to be willing to change your game plan.
